Here are a few reactions from market day on 10/15/09

"I think the market was done so much better because we are allowed to buy things with our money now. In the beginning of the year the market was horrible, mostly because we could only trade things for other things. The only thing I think we need to work on is getting more people to come in and sell more stuff." Caleb

"The market went ok. It didn't really seem like there is anything to buy that is really worth your money, but if there is it's usually near $1000. Also it could be way more organized. It seemed like it was too hectic. You should also give us a little more time." Kyle

"I think the market was fun. A lot of people brought in items to sell, so as a buyer it was a lot of fun. There was also a lot of variety in things to buy, so that was nice too. I hope the next market is as good as the last one." Maria

Market Place Board

The government is now looking for willing participants to design and run the Market Place.

We are looking for four qualified people who have the following qualities:
1) Honesty
2) Flexibility
3) Honed organizational skills
4) In 5th or 6th grade

The board will be in charge of the following:
1) Making the market run efficiently and effectively.
2) Creating a way for sellers to advertise what they are selling on Thursdays.
3) Organizing how sellers are arranged in the classrooms.
4) Creating a web site or blog for market updates.
5) Designing a way to generate "The Board's" income.

If you are interested, please write a paragraph explaining why you are qualified for this paid position. All job applications are due to your core teacher by Thursday, Nov. 5th.  There are 4 job slots available.

Second Business Proposal

This is your second opportunity to design a project for money. The government is now looking for a new Full House logo and slogan. The new logo and slogan will be used on our web site and to create team T-shirts and/or hats.

For this project you may design the logo, the slogan or both. You may only submit one logo and/or slogan, so put all your effort into your best idea. The winning logo and slogan will each be awarded $5,000. The money will be divided between all of the people involved with the project. Below are the requirements for this project. All projects will be presented on Tuesday Nov. 3rd to the government (Full House teachers) and the team.

New Logo:
1. Create an illustration that represents the feelings, reputation, and personality of Full House.
2. The illustration may be 1, 2, or 3 colors. This does not include the color of the T-shirt. (This allows for an easy and inexpensive transfer onto the Internet and other merchandise.)
3. The name "Full House" should be incorporated into the logo.
3. Submit your illustration on a clean 8X11 piece of paper with your first and last name written on the back. The color of the paper should be the color of the T-shirt.

New Slogan:
1. Create a catchy and school appropriate slogan. The slogan should represent the feelings, reputation, and personality of Full House.
2. The slogan should be a phrase or one sentence in length.
3. Font design and color will also influence the selection process. (Use only 1, 2, or 3 colors in the design for easy transfer.)
3. The slogan should be presented on a 8X11 piece of paper with your first and last name written on the back. The color of the paper should be the color of the T-shirt.

Market Day 10/8/09

Our first Market Day using student accounts was quite entertaining. You would be surprised to find out that candy apples can come with a pretty high price tag. Below are a few comments from 5th and 6th graders.

"I think that market day went really well. I had a blast. I think the set up is really good, and I like that 5/6 were in two rooms, and 7/8 were in another set of rooms. The only thinkg I did not like is that people were asking a lot, I MEAN A LOT of money for their goods. I think people should charge less for their goods. For example candy apples were $500-$600!!! Other than that I really like market day! Also it was kind of hectic, people were crowding you a lot if you were selling something." Megan

"I think to make it better we could organize better, like make one table for food items, one jewelry, one hand made stuff, and so on." Lydia

"I really liked the market yesterday. I like it because there was moe freedom. We could buy and sell. I also like it because it was only 5th and 6th graders and it wasn't too crowded." Ben C

"I think it should be in kiva so we are able to get to other people. I think we should have a longer time." Avery

Market update

Students will be entering their first true market day tomorrow. They will be bringing their account books with them as they buy and sell. Our super volunteers have done a tremendous job inputting all of the data. Students are bringing in many ideas, and seem very eager to join in the market. We also had two compost presentations by Forrest, Colton, and Jared. The government will be awarding its bid in the very near future. More design challenges are just around the corner.

First Business Proposal

This is your first opportunity to design a project for money. The government (Full House teachers) feels that the creation of a composting program is very important. The winning project design will be awarded $10,000. The money will be divided between all of the people involved with the project. Below are the requirements and issues that need to be addressed by any project.

1. A disposal area must be established for the compost.

2. Each core must have a clearly labelled container for compost.

3. Compost containers must be emptied each school day.

4. A schedule must be created for removal of the compost and cleaning of the containers.

5. A list needs to be created showing a work schedule. This will include people's names, their jobs, and when they will be working.

6. The winning company will be paid the $10,000 in 3 installments throughout the year.

7. The government reserves the right to terminate this contract if unsatified with the work.

8. Projects will be presented on October 6th.
